Drug Dependence - Rehabilitation, Training, Harm Reduction

Over the years, we have partnered with the government to run several projects that work primarily with drug users – these include:

• Treatment centres that offer de-addiction and counselling services.

• Training of resource persons at existing treatment facilities in the region, as well as vocational training of drug users.

• Harm Minimization Therapy among injecting drug users.

• In addition to this, we also offer whole person recovery programmes at our rehabilitation facility.

Campaign and Advocacy – Working with the Urban Poor

As a grass root organization we first engaged with rickshaw pullers as an urban collective, lobbying with the state government over issues of livelihood and rehabilitation. Since then we have partnered with Action Aid, CRY and OAK Foundation and worked with a range of issues concerning the urban poor – including Livelihood, Homelessness, Child Rights, Violence against Women, etc.

What We Do

Campaign and Advocacy – Working with the Urban Poor

Campaign and Advocacy started with the aim of addressing issues of the urban poor by facilitating their collectivization and capacity enhancement. We first began our journey with the hand-rickshaw pullers and the urban homeless.

Integrated Rehabilitation Centre for Addicts (IRCA)

Formally began as a centre for de-addiction in 1999 with a 15-bedded facility and was upgraded to a 30-bedded facility in 2003 (25 beds for male clients and 5 for female clients in a separate ward).

Targeted Intervention (TI)

Targeted Intervention runs a Drop-in Clinic where it administers Opioid substitution therapy. The aim is to minimize the transmission of HIV/AIDS among Injecting Drug Users.

Regional Resource Training Centre (RRTC)

The National Centre for Drug Abuse Prevention serves as the apex body for training, research, and documentation in the field of alcohol and drug demand reduction.

Kamalgazi Rehabilitation Shelter

Founded in 1998 Kamalgazi Rehabilitation Centre began as a shelter to provide a secure recovery home to the poor and homeless addicts. Our mission is to enable substance users to accept and understand the addiction, especially the underlying psychosocial triggers and coping mechanisms.

Vocational Rehabilitation

As part of the “Whole Person Recovery” programme, a screen-printing unit was set up in 1998, to provide vocational training to recovering users. Initial funds from International Labour Organization and European Commission enabled us to purchase equipment.
