Targeted Intervention (TI)

According to WHO:

Opiate dependence is a chronic relapsing condition with sometimes catastrophic effects for individuals, families and communities. This is only amplified in resource-poor settings. Opioid substitution therapy is not a cure for drug dependence – it is a therapy for management of a chronic condition….

Since 2006, Targeted Intervention runs a Drop-in Clinic where it administers Opioid substitution therapy as a part of Project H-13 under United Nations Office of Drugs and Crime (UNODC). The therapy works by providing drug users with a replacement drug such as buprenorphine, which is an oral substitute used as part of harm reduction strategy . We aim to minimize the transmission of HIV/AIDS among Injecting Drug Users by way of facilitating Needle Syringe Exchange Programs, substituting their injecting habits by the sublingual administration of Buprenorphine, promoting safer sexual practices, and initiating various detoxification and de-addiction procedures.

We run a Targeted Intervention Programme for the Injecting Drug Users in Jharkhand supported by Jharkhand State AIDS Prevention and Control Society and one in Jamshedpur.
