Regional Resource Training Centre (RRTC)
The National Centre for Drug Abuse Prevention serves as the apex body for training, research, and documentation in the field of alcohol and drug demand reduction. RRTCs have been established for the devolution of the mandate of the NCDAP at the regional level. As regional representatives, they undertake the following activities:
- Training of service providers.
- Documentation of programmes/results.
- Advocacy, research and monitoring.
- Technical support for NGO's, CBO's and enterprises.
- Strengthening the rehabilitation of the addicts.
Since its inception in July 2002, RRTC Kolkata has (until May 2018) conducted 122 capacity building programmes for 2837 resource persons working in De-addiction centres in the eastern zone.
Awareness Generation: RRTC Kolkata organizes awareness workshops on the ill effects of Drug and Alcohol Abuse among school children. These are conducted in different schools in our region and among the general public.
Sensitization: RRTC is also conducts sensitization programmes for the Police, Prison Officials and State Government Officials on issues of Drug and Alcohol Abuse and service provisions available for treatment of drug dependents.
Skill Development: RRTC has also organised skill development courses for the recovering substance users and their co-dependents.
Research: RRTC conducts different Action Research Projects supported by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment – GOI and in collaboration with UNODC, UNIFEM, AUSAIDS, DFID, NCPCR - AIIMS (New Delhi).
RRTC, Kolkata presently has been assigned the role of Regional Coordinating Agency and State Implementing Agency for West Bengal, Sikkim, Jharkhand and Bihar for the “National Survey On Extent and Pattern of Drug Abuse in India”, being conducted throughout the country by Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment and AIIMS – New Delhi in 2017–18.
